The use of cash to respond to the needs of crisis-affected populations has grown significantly. For humanitarian relief, cash has become widely used in place of in-kind assistance. This panel looks at the recent use of cash as a modality for providing assistance to meet the needs of conflict affected people fleeing Ukraine into Poland since February 2022. It looks at what the purpose(s) of the use of cash were, how well evidence to date suggests it has been successful, and which lessons can be learned to further improve the ability of responders to use cash as a mode of assistance.
