29.09.2023, 14:00 - 15:30 Conference Room 2 English only Humanitarian aid
High humanitarian needs often demand resources, but money isn’t always the answer. How can emerging technologies effectively support humanitarian actors? In the war in Ukraine, advanced technical solutions have emerged. Data analytics process complex data to predict future humanitarian needs. Mobile apps and social media platforms deliver and gather crucial information. Drones help assess the damage and identify vulnerabilities. Biometrics verify victims’ and refugees’ identities, aiding their reconnection with families. However, these technologies are relatively new, and raise human rights concerns. This panel discusses the role of technology, including drones, remote sensing, communication networks and data analysis, in optimizing humanitarian operations.
