08.12.2022, 13:30 - 14:45 Main Stage - Level 0 Global food (in)security

The panel will focus on the growing evidence that Ukrainian loss of income, supply chain disruptions, increasing prices and dependency on food assistance have significantly affected the access to and affordability of food globally. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, because of the war in Ukraine, between 20 and 30 percent of the area where winter crops were sown is likely to remain unharvested. Moreover, the conflict has forced farmers to reduce the sown land with spring crops. Overall, there is a significant decline in yields and a reduction of cereal production compared to the previous year’s exceptional results. What must and can be done now in order to preserve Ukraine’s status of “the granary of the world” and how to maintain the supply chains? These are the questions we will try to answer during this panel.
